The Silicon Valley Information and Communication Technology (SVICT) Collaborative has identified Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as the sector in which to develop a model collaborative program. The documented economic gap between technological “have” and “have not” middle school, high school, community college and adult students has significantly determined the design of this project. This project proposes to develop and implement an ICT modular curriculum at the high school, adult school, and community college levels. These modules will be written to California CTE standards with input from the advisory board.
Three aspects of this project are unique, exemplary, and disseminable: video production training, students recycling used technology (StRUT), and virtual meetings offered to new and continuing entities. Building on the strengths of these entities will expand the professional development opportunities currently available to teachers and faculty, as well as increasing the development of educational best practices and linkages with business and industry.
Although this collaborative covers a broad geographic region, it is built around a commonality—it is configured around the ICT programs, coursework, and applications in the many fields ICT affects. Although the current partner schools and agencies are located over an extended geographic area, the schools and colleges within this collaborative leverage resources to meet students’ needs and to create a seamless service delivery for all IT courses and programs.
